Why it matters

Where the work leaks out of a business in Madrid, and what the studies say changes when you take the step.

The problem

What slips away while you work.

  • Clinics and aesthetic centres

The first appointment is lost on the call nobody picked up at three in the afternoon.

  • Accountants and law firms

Hours of admin that a machine could already be doing.

  • Estate agents

Enquiries that arrive unfiltered and go cold before anyone calls them back.

  • Retail and garages

Orders, catalogues and reminders still going through WhatsApp and the phone.

  • Workshops and home services

Quotes and job notices organised by hand, one at a time.

THE NUMBERS

What the studies say, and what they don't.

37 %

Just over a third of Spanish micro-businesses have a website.

The rest compete without a shop window. This isn't our opinion: it's what the national statistics office measures every year.

INE, Survey on ICT and e-commerce use in businesses, final figures for the first quarter of 2025. Micro-businesses: fewer than 10 employees, with an internet connection.

This study is Australian and from 2017, and it measures association after controlling for size, age, sector and location: it says businesses that take the step do better, not that the website is the only reason.

Deloitte Access Economics for Google, Connected Small Businesses, 2017. 1,534 Australian SMEs with fewer than 200 employees.
